Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 16, 2026

DockApp is a Dock replacement for macOS, published by SKJ APPS. This policy explains what data the app does and does not process, and what, if anything, ever leaves your Mac.

The short version: DockApp keeps your data on your Mac. It has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no third-party trackers. The only times it reaches the network are for software update checks, the optional dock widgets you choose to turn on, and (for purchases made directly from us) license validation. Everything else stays on your device.

Who we are

DockApp is made by SKJ APPS. You can reach us at support@dockapp.app. Our website is https://dockapp.app and our company page is https://skjapps.com.

Data that stays on your Mac

DockApp stores your settings and dock arrangement locally, in your user Library's Application Support folder (~/Library/Application Support/DockApp/). This includes your dock items, recent apps, saved window layouts, the shelf's contents, custom icons and snapping preferences. These files never leave your Mac and are not sent to us or anyone else.

To do its job, DockApp uses a few macOS permissions. Everything they enable is processed on your device only - nothing captured through them is transmitted, uploaded or stored off your Mac:

You can grant or revoke each of these at any time in System Settings, Privacy and Security.

When DockApp connects to the internet

DockApp makes network connections only in the situations below, all of which you control. In each case, requests are sent directly from your Mac to the named service, they carry a DockApp/1.0 (+https://dockapp.app) user-agent, and - like loading any web page - they expose your device's IP address to that service. We do not receive, log or store the contents of these lookups; results are cached locally on your Mac.

  1. Updates. Setapp delivers DockApp's updates. The Setapp version of DockApp has no update checker of its own and never contacts our update server.
  2. Optional dock widgets. These run only if you turn the specific widget on and, where relevant, enter a location or key. Each talks to one third-party service and only for that widget:
    • Weather sends the coordinates of the city you choose to MET Norway (api.met.no) to fetch a forecast. Weather data is provided by MET Norway.
    • Crypto requests a spot price for the coin/currency pair you choose from Coinbase Exchange (api.exchange.coinbase.com).
    • Stocks uses your own Finnhub API key (finnhub.io) that you enter in Settings. If no key is set, DockApp makes no stock request at all. Each request carries the symbol you are watching and your key.
    • Now Playing lyrics sends the current track's artist, title and duration to LRCLIB (lrclib.net) to fetch matching synced lyrics.
    • Website icons (for shelf and dock items that point to a site) are fetched directly from that site's own domain, the same way your browser would load its favicon.
  3. Validating your license (direct purchases only). If you bought DockApp directly from us and enter a license key, DockApp contacts our license server (api.dockapp.app), then again each time it opens, to verify the purchase and the activation on your Mac so the device limit can be managed. This sends your license key and an activation code for your Mac: a one-way hash of your Mac's hardware ID, which never leaves your Mac itself and cannot be recovered from the code. Your computer name and user name are not sent. Your license key is stored in your Mac's Keychain and is never written to logs. If you obtained DockApp through Setapp, this step does not apply - Setapp manages your entitlement, so DockApp does not run its own license activation.

DockApp does not use analytics SDKs, advertising, tracking cookies or crash-reporting services, and it does not require you to create an account with us.

How any data is used

The limited data described above is used only to make the feature you requested work: to show an update is available, to display a forecast, price, quote or lyrics, to load a site icon, or (for direct purchases) to validate your license. We do not use it for profiling, advertising or resale, and we do not combine it into a profile of you.

Bug reports

If you use Report a Bug from the About screen, DockApp pre-fills an email to us that includes your app version, macOS version, device architecture and whether Screen Recording and Accessibility are granted - nothing else. The email is composed in your own mail app, and nothing is sent until you choose to send it.

Third parties

Data retention and security

Because your DockApp data lives only on your Mac, you can remove it by deleting DockApp and its ~/Library/Application Support/DockApp/ folder. We do not hold a copy to delete on your behalf. Network requests use HTTPS. For purchase and account data held by Setapp or our direct payment provider, retention and security are governed by their respective policies.

Your rights (GDPR and CCPA)

Because DockApp itself does not collect or store your personal data on our servers, in most cases we hold nothing about you to access, correct or delete. Where a data-protection law such as the EU/UK GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) applies to purchase or account data, you have the right to access, correct, delete or port that data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. We do not sell or share your personal information, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioral advertising. For data tied to a purchase made through Setapp or our direct payment provider, please also contact that provider, as they are the controller of that transaction data. To exercise any right with us, email support@dockapp.app; we will not discriminate against you for doing so.

Children

DockApp is a productivity tool that is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction).

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new effective date.
